Dear Diary

After Leaving Momma’s house i feel very agitated , this wizard fellow walking with me seams to be muttering but i am not listening , i need to find a way to get out of this situation , maybe there is something i have on my notice board.

I start going over the pamphlet , yes these words are mine but the writing is not in my hand but i do recognise it … now where from… wait i remember that note that was slipped under my door , and ….Thinks…. i have seen the writing somewhere else but where….

as we approached the market i could hear music , a flute i think .looking up i see a young girl and a merchant up ahead , that dam fool wizard is interrupting my train of thought again , where is he off to , i better try and keep up he will only get his pocket picked again , ,Thinks better follow him

We both pas through the market and can hear a lot of chearing , looks like someone is hanging from justice gate , i wonder who was the unlucky fellow , as i get closer i see it is that old fat watchman , Gunther i think his name was , Oh well never mind , right now what about these papers , then it struck me… Rembracht , that slimy toe rag . I Look up and who do i see but that same fellow just standing there , i give him an icy stare , he sees me and make a run for it , i try to trip him but lose my footing bet do manage to follow him to the pig of all places.

Inside the pig it is busy with a load of dockers having a good time , through the crowd i spot Rembrandt and sit down next to him while luther goes and talks to some friends of his.

Rembracht seams a little agitated , well i am not surprised as i quiz him intently about his latest scrawling and try to convince him to do the right thing but he refuses at first , then all of a sudden he gets up and tries to leave , poor fellow i tripped him and sat on him and proceeded to inform him of the error of his ways , saying that my friends would also like a quick word.

Looking around the pig there seams to be some trouble brewing , Hmmmm better get this guy outside so i open a window with his head , wouldn’t want to use my hand as it might hurt. He is bundled outside and is quiet for a moment , but the pig is close to uproar as harsh words are said.

I am eventually joined outside by two others , a burly trader and a large kisvilite who help restrain Rembracht , But do you know what , that guy is slippery and he breaks free , however my new friends do manage to catch him and we escort him to a quiet part of town and to a warehouse that is owned buy one of my new friends.

I am not sure but this warehouse might not be the best place as it looks like someone else is already here , no matter i let the owner sort out the intruders and wait outside , meanwhile thinking of the best way of getting Rembrandt to put pen to paper all of what he has told me.

We all enter the warehouse and i make sure Rembracht is securely tied to a chair , he refuses at first to pen anything but i do manage to persuade him by breaking is toes with a nicely shaped piece of wood , my he does make a loud noise after i hit his foot.

It was about this time i see this horrible mutant with long arms come out of the back room , a chair is thrown which seams to do little or no damage a powerful magical spell is cast and the thing shot full of arrows and drops , i am more interested in making sure Rembrandt writes everything down , which it looks like he has , just have to let the others know that he might have some answers to their questions .

As an afterthought i think i did enjoy extracting extracting the information out of Rembrandt , perhaps i have found a new untapped talent for this work , i wonder if there is any money in knowledge extraction

Until next time Diary , this is Wolfie signing off

Session 02 - Journal entry for Lukas Herrscherr
An Apprentice-Wizard's job is never done...

One down, Three to go…

Today, I had a chance to report my findings to Luminary Mauer in regards to Herr Demholft. To my surprise and consternation, I realized my report of Rembracht’s unsuitability to become a member of the Sun Society was no surprise to Luminary Mauer. He already had come to that conclusion and my trip to meet Herr Demholft seem more like a test to see of my judgement. Luminary Mauer seem to quickly read my expression and sense my feelings about being sent on an errand that could had been settled by asking me some simple questions rather then sending me into a flea-infested nest of rats.

With that task done, I then had a talk with Luminary Mauer and learned that one his goals with the Sun Society was to use it to increase the spread of literacy within the Empire. On the face of that idea, it seems quite admirable an goal and I should find myself pleased to be asked to become a part of bringing it to fruition. However, some concern shadows my thoughts on this lofty goal, for even in my short life as an apprentice in service of the Bright Order I have come to learn that some words contain within them dangers that go beyond this world. For now, I feel despite these thoughts, I will work to help bring Mauer’s goal to life and pray, we are not unsheathing a double-edge sword. If the spread of reading is to go beyond our Orders and those privileged few then it would be wise for our Orders to increase the security of our Tomes. As Sigmar warned us, “Often the greatest danger comes not from those we suspect of learning our secrets, but those who might happen to stumble onto them without any forethought or malice.”

Sigmar protect us all.

After that discussion, he asked me to provide aid with two missions. The first, he asked me to look into some notable murders that have been brought to his attention. What makes the murders so odd is the condition of the wounds that the corpses display. On all the bodies which have been examined, the nature of the wounds were most queer. The area of the wounds appeared to have been reduced to “the consistancy of warm cheese”. Perhaps signs of purification? Another fact given was one of the bodies was discovered by someone named Jurgen Smidth. Luminary Maur pondered outloud if there was any relation to the Smidth family, a local well-to-do local merchant.

Such is the nature of these cases that Captain Baerfaust of the Watch had approached Luminary Mauer to lend aid into discovering the root cause of these deaths. From his initial investigations, Mauer had come to the conclusion that perhaps these deaths may lead to a darker source then simple drunken random violence or political intrigue. A source somehow connected to the ruinous powers damn be their names which I will not write here.

To this end, Luminary Mauer asked to look into this matter, and to do that he encouraged me to gather a group to help me. One of whom should be knowledgeable of the dock area, a person who which Luminary Mauer went on to describe as scum. But how can I find someone who’s knowledge of the docks is enough to overcome my distrust of his nature? Hmm…who indeed…

One final note, Luminary Mauer suggested that I approach the son of Jurgen Smidth, a fellow who goes by the name Wolfie Smidth. Curious name as well as a curious background. But curious or not, he suggested Wolfie Smidth because such a move might lead to improved relations with the Smidth family and perhaps a show of generosity toward the Sun Society in the form of donations. He made mention of others who I might seek out, but the soldier Beric “The Goat” would indeed come in handy should brawn be needed, if not brains.

So it turns out my first trip was to make my way to a party being thrown by the Smidths. Among those present besides the Smidths (including their son, Wolfie) was Graf Friedrich von Kaufman.

Well, it seems I now know why Luminary Mauer sent me to this party in his stead. I kinda suspected that Mauer was trying to avoid the normal noble foppier which is expected at these sort of occasions. But I can’t think of anything that would have prepared me for the ‘entertainment’ which consisted of two parts.

  1. The announcment by Theodosius von Techtenhagan of the marriage of Wolfie Smidth and the Lady Wanda von Teuchtenhagan. When I was introduced to Wanda, I was reminded of some books that spoke of such horrors as beastmen which stalk people in the wild forest. Never have I thought to find one at the Coach and Inn Tavern and from the look on Wolfie’s shocked jaw as it slammed into the floor, I can only surmised that this marriage was something arranged without his knowledge.
  2. Next, was a poetry reading by the same Wolfie Smidth. Again, it seems Herr Smidth was on someone’s black list by the look of horror that crept over him as Frau Smidth announced the reading of selected poetry works by Wolfie Smidth. I’m not sure how to describe the reception. Afterward and even now, I’m not sure if the clapping was for the effort of the works or for the fact the reading was over.

It was at this time, that I spoke up and announced that as a member of the sun Society it was my pleasure to add to these precedings with an announcement from Luminary Mauer, who was unfortunately unable to make it today, I was present to extend an offer to Wolfie Smidth at the behest of Luminary Mauer which required me to ask him to join a task group being assembled. Should he join, it would no doubt almost assuredly guarantee that a formal invitation would be extended to Herr Wolfie Smidth to become a recognized and honorable member of the highly esteem Sun Society.

However, as good news as this is no doubt to Herr Wolfie Smidth, as part of this task group, he would be required to make preparations to travel within days or ,if needed within hours, of accepting. Unfortunately, this would unavoidably delay his nuptials with the Lady Wanda von Teuchtenhagan. I asked the family to take heart that this call to aid would serve the greater good and I’m sure as no man can deny that if their actions can bring safety and prosperity to his homeland, any sacrifice would be justified.

From the excited smile from Frau Smidth, who was most likely, imagining the stories of heroic retellings of her son, it was clear that I had recruited the first member of my team.

As others were talking of postponing the marriage ceremony until later. I did make a most unfortunate blunder. It happened while I was making my way through the room, I did manage to trip over myself and spill my wine unto Gianessa Antonias, a maiden of radiant beauty. Her presence filled the room with such attractive virtue. However, my first attempt to introduce myself left me with a blot on my hopes to make a good impression upon her mind. Regardless of my efforts to apologize, she quickly got up to leave with Steffan Braton, the owner and leader of the acting troup from ‘Le Rosae Thatrum Players’. I made a quick decision to right the wrong I accidentally imposed on the young lady by using my skills, and a handy cantrip I learned when I was pressed for time and lacked suitably clean clothes. If Oskar, my master, were present, I’m sure I would have been subjected to double studies over the ethics of responsible use of the Arts, but with her clothes in immaculate condition, I was able to rescue a little face and avoid becoming the object of ridicule in current circles.

Wolfie's diary

Dear Diary
I woke this morning to find a note pushed under my door , this note was little more of a scribble on a rough piece of paper and in an unkept mentioned that if i make my way to the docks this morning i would learn something to my advantage. i poured my eyes over the note to see if there was anything different , strange or otherwise obscure , who was it from i asked myself but nothing sprang to mind. Then i remembered that i had just paid off the recent gambling debt by pawning my mothers brooch , thinking that was a stupid thing to do i rifled through my apartment looking for all the spar coin i could find which amounted to a tidy sum of 2 gold coins and 10 silver , this i hoped would be enough to retrieve the brooch

so after a little breakfast of ham and eggs i went downstairs and out into the morning air. The weather was appalling , the rain was pelting down , thinking to myself that i bet someone is responsible for this weather and they are doing it out of spite i made my way to the docks.

There were the usual people here , traders , dockers local street urchins , i kept a tight grip on my purse for fear of having it stolen by some organised gang of pickpockets.

My Flat is situated on the opposite side of the river from the docks which means crossing by way of the bridge , i normally stay on my own side of the river as it is a little quieter and less chance of being mugged . however on this occasion thought that if i were to learn more i would need to venture across the bridge.

While crossing i was aware of a number of new faces , all of which looked very shady and were bound to be up to no good , so i kept my distance but close enough to hear them speak if they did , perhaps one of those people left the note , i eyed them intently but not so much as to be noticed.

Just by the edge of the bridge i so am older man conversing with Olga , a local fishwife , it looked like she was trying her utmost to sell her wears but no she had a piece of paper and was handing it to this person. i edged closer straining my ears to hear what was being said but could not quite hear. Curiosity got the better of me so i edged my way towards the couple so that i could hear , what were they up to , i looked around and no one seamed to be watching so edging my way forward and straining my ears to hear i heard mention a sum of money but it did not sound like a normal sale , could this be more bribery , corruption or maybe something worse blackmail.

I decided to quicken my pace and walk past them to try and glean what it was all about but by the time i got to the fish stall the old gent had left in a little but of a huff so no information there.

As i got to the end of the bridge there was that awful fellow Rambrecht spouting his political stuff which i have heard before and for me his views are to conservative he needs to give more power to the people but he is too obsessed with his own views he will not listen to others, I cross to the other side of the road narrowly missing a brute of a man , i looked back and thought he looks familiar and tried to rack my brains but could not come up with anything.

So Hear i am standing at the docks and looking around for an information regarding the note , i looked at the note again the paper was normal , the writing was normal perhaps there was some secret writing which i could not see , or perhaps someone will contact me , i waited by the side of the docks keeping my eyes peeled for something that might arouse suspicion but nothing.

Then i hear a commotion coming from the upright pig , it looked like there was a heated argument. Edging closer and not wanting to get involved in the situation but needing to know more i strain my ears , apparently this fight is about the disappearance of one of the dockers , another kidnapping i thought , i start to take some notes , and a little sketch of the situation so i could study that later.

The fight ensues for a few moments with one of the dockers knocking down a stranger , could this be a setup , i look round and a few people are watching but most seam to be ignoring what is happening
i continue to watch , taking notes.

Eventually the fight stops and the dockers return to their drinks inside. I make my way to the strange who was knocked down to see if he was ok , i asked him what was that fight about and why was he involved but i did not get a clad answer just a mumble about a docker that had disappeared. the stranger got to his feet and mat his way into the bar leaving me and a few bystanders , i looked around , no one seamed interested in me so eventually i made my way inside to see if i could find out anything else , after all there was a mystery here and if i am to find who is responsible i will have to brave the inn and enter

Inside there were a number of dockers , and a few strangers so i found a quiet spot and started to listen and watch what was going on , most seam to drinking and enjoying themselves. It was at that point i spotted a person i do not want to see again namely that racketeer Frederick Grosz , i hope he doesn’t see me though i have paid him all i owe and he is sitting with another shady looking character , i strain my ears to hear and i think i can make out that Frederick is extorting money from the other person , Is this blackmail or a pay off , i don’t hear any more but still take notes.

Some moments later that fellow Rambrecht arrives only to be met at the door by another strange , Rambrecht goes into his usual spell about his government reforms , i think i’m glad i don’t have to listen to that as some other unfortunate strange has to , well they will only get fought once then they will ignore him like the plague.

A little while later and Rambrecht is in deep discussion which is normal for him , pity the poor person who has to listen to it , i make by way to the exit only to be narrowly missed by a flying beer mug i beat a hasty retreat and make my way outside. Its raining again and only a few hawkers and traders around, i decide to make my way to Mathilda Durbein to see if i can get my mothers locket back , i realise now that i should not have pawned it so hopefully she still has it.

When i get to Mathilda i find that she has sold it to a party near the black fire pass , i am grief stricken and dismayed and have to sake her if she can find a replacement she says she will try but this will cost me a pretty penny , i hand her 10 silver and say i will return in a few days

Todays recap , well it seamed that it was a waste of time , i examine the notes i made to see it there was anything i missed before cooking tea and going to bed

Journal Entry for Lukas Herrscherr
What a lousy day...

Today has been a utter waste of my time. Arg! If I hadn’t been in such a position of responsibility not only to myself, but as the sole remaining representative of the Bright Order in this town ship, now that the rest of my fellows have been called else where; had that not been the case, I would probably find myself a hunted man of the local watch and any nearby witch hunters. But, I am getting ahead of myself.

This morning, I thought my day would be one of insightful discussion with Luminary Mauer and perhaps a chance to seek his aid with my paper. Since that day on the dock, I’ve been in a bit of a spot trying to find replacement copies of first hand accounts into the devastation of Mordheim in 1999. I am glad that I went with my better judgement and decided to have copies made rather then take Mauer’s personal copies. But now since that day, I have been trying to overcome my embarrassment of being put in a position forcing me to once again seek Mauer’s help on the matter. Doing so will certainly affect his judgement of my level of responsibility. Not only did I travel about without backup copies of my work, but to lose them to a common cut-purse.

On this day, Luminary Mauer asked if I could speak with Rembracht Delfholt over a pamphlet he wrote. Mauer wanted me to have an interview with Delfholt and then to take time to submit a critique over the contents of Delfholt’s paper as well as a decision regarding the possibility of extending an invite to Mister Delfholt to become a regular member of the Sun Society.

After Luminary Mauer told me I would be able to find him at an establishment called ‘The Upright Pig’ and anxious to get started on this seemingly simple assignment, I left to begin my task as soon as I was given my leave.

In route to ‘The Upright Pig’, I happened to run into an old woman trying to sell me some fish as if I was a common grocer buyer on the merchant strip. Although, I had no need of her wares, she was able to provide me with better directions to the ‘The Upright Pig’. She noted me as a learned man and ask if I could read over a leaflet regarding her missing husband. When she discovered that the note was out of date as to the time her husband went missing, she had the gull to ask me money to have new notices printed! Normally, I would charge to write or proofread another one’s work as compensation for my time. This hag not only wasted my time and had the benefit of my services to proofread her note, but now she expects me to put forth my money towards finding her husband who is probably lying dead in a ditch somewhere. No doubt another victim of the rampant crime in this village, which I myself had recently been made to experience first-hand. So, if only to be rid of her and back on my way, I handed her two brass pennies and quickly asked Sigmar to bless her efforts before heading on my way.

Having reached ‘The Upright Pig’, I was to begin wondering as to the character of Rembracht. The streets around the location were filled with ruffians and whores. To add weight to my initial impression, not long after I had arrived at ‘The Upright Pig’, I happened to witness a scuffle between two groups of men.

Prior to the skirmish, the leader of one of the groups of ruffians, I believe they were calling themselves ‘The Rats’,was throwing accusations over the disappearance of one his “boys” to which the other group of people, who were often referred to as ‘The Fish’, where quick to deny any involvement. As to be expected among the uneducated, when it comes to disputes, they always, and quickly, resort to brawling like common riff-raff.

When the donnybrook had finally settled down, I asked one of the remaining ruffians a few questions about his missing compatriot. I must admit now that I had become intrigued by what started out as a minor coincidence with rumours I have heard but barely cared to consider more then hearsay taken from gullible listeners who had listened to one children’s story too many. From the ruffian, it seems his fellow ‘rat’ had gone missing about 5 days ago. When asked why he and his friends thought ‘The Fish’ were responsible, he couldn’t come up with any evidence that would convince a small child other then to remark “It must be their fault, because they are ‘The Fish’.” Sadly, it was pretty much as what I expected from a common man.

With nothing more to be gained, I headed inside the pub and waited for Mister Delfholt to make an appearance and to hope that a conversation would make up for the dismay meeting place. I thought maybe about reading Mister Delfholt’s, but decided that it might be interesting to approch Delfholt completely without any bias regarding his statements and let him speak totally on his own merits to bring his point across. If Mauer were to indeed extend a membership to Mister Delfholt, it was without doubt, Mauer would consider it important that all members could speak on their own behalf in a manner that would be representative of the Sun Society.

What a disappointment that interview was! A waste of time it was speaking to Rembracht Delfholt, I now wished I had read his pamphlet and saved myself the trouble, or perhaps use my travel time to take that pamphlet as evidence of another agitator spreading seditious propaganda. I listened to Rembracht for quite a time as he spoke of the need to replace the Elector system brought about after the departure of the father of the Empire himself. I began to feel uneasy allowing this speech to continue. Not to mention, I lost track where he was in his speech after dozing off a couple of times. One thing I remember hearing before losing interest was something about “bread riots” and other such rubbish.

I finally found myself at the end of my patience and questioned the merits of his ‘power to the people’ rhetoric. I couldn’t believe the native response of this man. Does he not understand the need of the Electoral system currently in placed to bring order and guide the Empire, especially, in light of the dangers that threatens our borders to the north.

It was then Delfholt had found himself beyond his reason and abruptly left the table and the pub.

This left me alone to muse over the discussion I had just taken part in. But my mood was quickly soured when I heard my name called out and asked if I had my pursed snatched again recently. Looking around, I found a rogue sitting at a nearby table waving towards me. I didn’t recognize the sitting figure at first, and it took me a moment to focus my sight on him and recall the other man’s countenance and his part that led me to my predicament on the docks not more then a week past.

The Scoundrel’s mocking wave and facial expression made my blood boil, a moment I felt my power being instinctively drawing forth and knew I could but unleash my wrath onto him and let him know in that moment the magnitude of his error in not only stealing from me, but to so openly mock me as if I was some dim-witted fool. But I was quick to recall my power, I was trained to become a battle wizard should the Empire or the Order have need of my power. To unleash it in the crowded confines of this pub may bring much undeserved tribulation upon the other patrons of this pub, despite the fact I’m sure it would not matter one iota to the local constabulary if this den of thieves were to go up in smoke, but the act would surely bring my name to every witch hunter and Bright Order member within 100 miles.

I quickly hurled my nearly empty beer flask at the rogue and told him to ‘try pinching that’. The act earned me a moment of satisfaction when I saw the flask hit its mark and with that I took my leave of the flea-infested ‘Upright Pig’ and thought how appropriate the name was in reflection to some of its patrons.

First Session Today

Bring on the Fatigue and Stress and let the body parts fly!

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
